Registration Categories
Many and increasingly more Metropolitans, Local authorities and Insurance
Company's require that any person working on plumbing works within their
jurisdiction or being part of their panel plumbers must be registered with the
Plumbing Industry Registration Board. It is illegal for any person who works on
plumbing installation if he/she is not a qualified plumber or not working under
the adaqaute supervision of a qualified plumber.
PIRB Regsitered plumbers have demonstrated their qualifications and in some case
their experience, and required to have an appropriate level of insurance cover.
The various categories under which plumbing practitioners are registered with
the PIRB:
Licensed Plumber:
Persons applied for this category of registration has passed the relevant
plumber trade test as specified in the Manpower training act section 28 or 13
and/or have obtained a plumbing qualification in terms of the Skills Development
Act. Persons applied for this category of registration has write and pass the
PIRB's Licensed Plumber and is required to have the relevant insurance in place.
Only Licensed Plumbers have the right to purchase and issue Plumbing
Certificates of Compliance.
Qualified Plumber:
Persons that applied for this category of registration has passed the relevant
plumber trade test as specified in the Manpower training act section 28 or 13
and/or have obtained a plumber qualification in terms of the Skills Development
Act. Persons applied for this category of registration is required to have the
relevant insurance in place.
Plumber's Hand (Level 2):
Persons applied for this category of registration must have passed the relevant
trade test as specified in the Manpower training act section 28 or be Recognised
for Prior Learning in terms of the Skills Development Act. It must be noted that
this is not a full plumbers qualification and this person allied for this
category of registration still has to work under the adequate supervision of a
Registered or Licensed Plumber (see above)
Learner Plumber:
Persons applied for this category of registration must be enrolled in a
formalized accredited plumber training stream in terms of the Skills Development
Act and the Man-Power Training Act section 13
Plumber (Probationary):
Persons applied for this category of registration has a minimum of five years
plumbing experience and must work under the supervision and/or mentorship of a
Licensed Plumber. All persons registered under this category would be required
to obtain their plumber qualification within 12 months of registering under this
category trough a formal training route or apply and pass the relevant trade
test. Persons applied for this category of registration is required to have the
relevant insurance in place.
Solar Assistant Installer:
Persons applied for this category of registration has completed and passed the
relevant Solar Installer Skills Program in terms of the National Qualifications.
Solar (Qualified) Installer:
Persons applied for this category of registration has passed the relevant
plumber trade test as specified in the Manpower training act section 28 or 13
and/or has obtained a plumber qualification in terms of the Skills Development
Act and have completed and passed the relevant Solar Elective Skills Program.
Plumbing Training Assessor:
Persons applied for this category of registration has passed the relevant
plumber trade test as specified in the Manpower training act section 28 or 13
and/or has obtained a plumber qualification in terms Skills Development Act and
have completed and passed a relevant accredited assessors course.
PIRB Plumbing Inspector:
Persons applied for this category of registration is a Qualified Licensed
Plumber has a minimum of five years plumbing experience and has attended and
passed the relevant PIRB's Plumbing Inspector's course.
To regularly consult and liaise with the plumbing industry and with authorized
bodies related to the industry, in an open forum free of any political or
commercial agenda for the discussion of matters affecting the plumbing industry
and the role of plumbing for the safety and well being of the whole community
and protecting the integrity and sustainability of the water supply and waste
water systems.
All PIRB Registered Plumbers are uploaded on to our Web Page for all consumers
to verify the authentication of the PIRB registered plumbers.
Cost of Registration:
The cost of registration fee is an annual registration fee
of:
- R250.00 (excl.VAT) - If applying for Licensed or Plumber Qualified
Category and
- R150.00 (excl. VAT) - If
applying for any other Categories.
If you apply for two or more categories you only have to pay the
registration fee for the highest category for which you are applying.
All registered plumbers must reapply for registration 1 calendar month
before the renewal date that appears on the registration card.
Ask for Identification Licensed Card:
All PIRB Registered plumbers are required to carry photo ID cards as proof of
their accreditation and registration.
Photo ID cards assist PIRB Registered plumbers to quickly and clearly identify
themselves as holding the appropriate accreditation, ensuring consumer
confidence.
